Identification Tips

• 1Very small, elongated body with short legs
• 2Reddish-brown above, white below with a distinct boundary line

Similar Species

American Mink

Stoats are much smaller with a clear brown/white division; mink are uniformly dark

Stoats are much smaller than pine martens

Description

Ireland's smallest carnivore (the Irish stoat is a distinct subspecies). Active and agile, stoats are occasionally caught on camera traps darting across paths.
